BARBERSHOP QUARTETS TO OFFER SINGING VALENTINES

Written by Bob Heim  |  03. January 2011

BARBERSHOP QUARTETS TO PROVIDE THE PERFECT "PITCH" WITH "LOVE NOTES" PERSONALY DELIVERED TO YOUR VALENTINE WESTBURY, LONG ISLAND, NY - Sure, there's candy, flowers and cards to capture the hearts and affection of those you hold dear. But if you want to be undeniably "vocal" in your approach to Valentine's wishes this time around, there IS a way -- a bit special, too. Through a singing Valentine, personally delivered on your behalf. With its barbershop quartets, members of The Nassau Mid-Island Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society will be fanning out into communities of Nassau County and Western Suffolk over the course of three days (February 12th, 13th and Valentine's Day -- Monday the 14th) to sing two love songs on behalf of those who understand how potent such a gesture can be at this especially romantic time. Count on a few blushes, some laughter and perhaps appreciative tears, if past years in this successful program are to be recalled. Performed in perfect harmony by a talented foursome dressed in tuxedos and bright red bow ties, the personally delivered singing Valentines are offered at a cost of $50 per prearranged presentation, with the barbershop quartets arriving unannounced at predetermined locations to deliver the music, a written message from the sender as well as a silk rose. Requests for the "Hear and Now" Valentines -- an annual fund-raiser by the nonprofit chapter -- are currently being accepted for the three days on a schedule-available basis. For further information and arrangements for such a presentation call 516-521-9534. The local Nassau Mid-Island Chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society (largest such Chapter on Long Island), is part of a national organization numbering approximately 30,000 members, and is one of over 800 chapters in the US and Canada with affiliated organizations around the globe. Under the direction of Maurice Debar, its Long Island Harmonizers chorus rehearses Tuesday evenings at Winthrop Hall, Church of the Advent, 555 Advent Street, in Westbury at 8 pm, and welcomes new members throughout the year.
