VALLEY STREAM, NY - Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. announced that Dr. Greg Nelson, Senior Vice President, has been named a board-certified general practitioner in Canine & Feline Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). A rare accomplishment among Long Island veterinarians, Dr. Nelson becomes one of only 400 veterinarians board certified by the ABVP in Canine & Feline Practice in the U.S.
The ABVP certifies veterinarians who demonstrate excellence in species-oriented clinical practice. It is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association to offer species-based certification in different practice categories. ABVP certifies practitioners with exceptional knowledge, skill and competency in the care of the total patient.
ABVP Diplomates are certified in Clinical Practice for the species in which the certification was granted. Clinical Practice as it pertains to veterinarians is the art and science of applying medical knowledge to animals for their care and the alleviation and prevention of their diseases.
Dr. Nelson was selected through a rigorous credentialing and examination process, these veterinarians have shown a mastery of up-to-date clinical medicine and surgery as well as the ability to communicate in a professional and scientific manner. By achieving ABVP certification, practitioners become Diplomates and are fully recognized as specialists under the American Board of Veterinary Specialties, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). According to the AVMA, there are more than 90,000 veterinarians in the United States.
"I am very proud to have been named as a board-certified general practitioner," Dr. Nelson said. "This certification allows me to help the animals that are currently in our care. I thank my peers in the veterinary field for bestowing this honor upon me."
Dr. Nelson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 where he received numerous academic accolades. Since then, he has received both local and national recognition, including the ASPCA's Presidents Award for Outstanding Veterinarians.
He has continued his education in the fields of radiology and diagnostic imaging and surgery through class study and one-on-one mentoring. He currently resides as the head of diagnostic imaging and head of surgery at Central Veterinary Associates, P.C.
