Real Life Ninja Academy, a training facility designed to teach children and adults the art of real Ninja training modeled after the television show American Ninja Warrior, has opened in Freeport.

The Freeport Real Life Ninja Academy is owned by Massapequa native Kathryn Gawrych. The facility is a 9,333-square-foot academy filled with challenging obstacles and courses. The obstacles and the training curriculum are designed by American Ninja Warrior champion Drew Drechsel who co-founded the company. The Freeport gym is the first Real Life Ninja Academy location on Long Island. All other locations are in Connecticut.

Real Life Ninja Academy has classes for students of all ages. Kids classes for children ages 5 through 14, are focused, according to its website, on helping children gain physical and mental strength through obstacle training and fun. Adult classes are where students use “agility, strength, balance, and technique” to overcome obstacles. All levels of experience are welcome. For students who desire more intensive, hands-on instruction or who want to prepare for competition, private classes are available.

Real Life Ninja Academy also hosts birthday parties and corporate outings and will offer a children's summer camp program. Registration for the summer camp will begin in March.
