The Fraud and Forgery Unit reports the arrest of an Illinois man for Grand Larceny that occurred on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 12:30 pm in North Merrick.
According to Detectives, a Nassau Law Firm received an email requesting a change in payment instructions from a known business associate in regards to an upcoming settlement. The Law Firm wired approximately $709,000.00 to the newly designated financial institution. Several weeks later the Law Firm was contacted by the known business associate who stated that they still had not received the $709,000.00. After a thorough investigation it was determined that the funds were wired to the defendant’s business account. The defendant, Robert Weathersby, 42, of 416 Bensley Avenue, Calumet City, was placed under arrest without incident by The Chicago Police Department. The defendant was extradited to Nassau County.
Defendant Weathersby is charged with Grand Larceny 2 nd Degree. He was arraigned on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Nassau County Court, 262 Old Country Road, Mineola.
