Noema Greek Restaurant Opens in Huntington

Written by Lon Cohen  |  26. January 2023

They call it traditional Greek cuisine meets modern concepts. A new Greek restaurant called Noema opened in Huntington. Executive Chef Nicholas Poulmentis is cooking up traditional cuisine from his native Greece as seen through his own culinary lens.

Noema takes over the space that used to be 7 Gerard, which closed in 2022.

According to his bio, Poulmentis is a Food Network Chopped Champion who was born in New York City but raised on the Greek island of Kythira. He also published his first cookbook in 2021 called The Novelty of Greek Cuisine. It’s fair to say that Poulmentis seems to know a thing or two about Greek cuisine.

Noema offers a brunch, lunch and dinner menu. Shareable dishes include their Black Truffle Tarama Caviar, which is herring fish roe, salmon caviar, truffle powder, and coral tuille ($15), Octopus Keftedes with spicy red pepper aioli ($15) and a swordfish kebab with green salsa baby spinach and cherry tomatoes ($15).

Entrees include a Filet Mognon with green peppercorn sauce ($39), Aussie Lamb Chops with ratatouille ($42), Pan Seared Scallops with saffron emulsion and squid ink pasta ($45), and an Orzo Paella with tiger shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams ($45).

As expected from food inspired by the Greek islands, the menu leans heavily into seafood.

According to a review in Huntington Now, owner Lisa DiPinto is planning to expand Noema (a Greek word that means perception, thought or understanding) in Garden City and Manhattan.

Location: 7 Gerard Street, Huntington, (631) 629-7777.
