Back to Jail for Shoplifter After Stint at Hospice

Diane McCloud, a convicted chronic shoplifter, was released from jail earlier this month as doctors reported she was near death. But on Tuesday, the Nassau County judge who released her to hospice care ordered McCloud back to jail. Judge Francis Ricigliano received word from doctors indicating she could live another six months. McCloud’s attorney says her family is pleased that her condition is improving. McCloud has been released last year to pursue a heart transplant for a heart condition from which she suffers. Unfortunately she forfeited that change when she was arrested once again for shoplifting from three drugstores.

Woman Pulls Gun on Teen

A Rockville Centre woman has been arrested after pulling on a teenager who she thought was playing the game Ding-Dong-Ditch at her home. 47-year-old Bernadette Greenwald lost her cool and allegedly pointed a 9mm gun at the 17-year-old because she thought he had been rung her doorbell and then run away numerous times. She held the boy at her home until police responded but when they arrived she was charged with second degree menacing, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon. Greenwald was furious at the notion she was being pranked so she retrieved her revolver, fired a single shot out of her home and then confront the teen who has been walking by. Then teen was not charged in the incident and knew nothing about the doorbell ringing.

Garden City Man Fatally Struck by Subway Train

Brian O’Mara, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a Brooklyn-bound L train at the 3rd Avenue and East 14th Street station just after 8:15am Saturday morning. O’Mara recently started his first job as a financial analyst at Corporate Insight after graduating from the University at North Carolina in 2011. He was one of two men killed on the same subway line Saturday. Four other men were reportedly killed in Brooklyn in separate incidents within 24 hours on Saturday.

Husband Receives DWI After Wife is Injured in Crash

Richard Giovelli was driving southbound on Wellwood Avenue in East Farmingdale just before 8pm when he stopped in the left turning lane to make a turn onto Long Island Avenue. Jeffrey Hirsch, driving under the influence of alcohol, then rear-ended Giovelli’s Suzuki Vitara with his Subaru Forrester. Hirsch’s wife Pauline, a passenger in the Subaru, was transported to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage and was later transferred to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where she was treated for serious injuries. Giovelli and his passenger were also transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, as was Jeffrey Hirsch. Hirsch is charged with driving while intoxicated.
