The 19th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count: Birding Events & Where to Go Bird Watching on Long Island
Join in all the bird-centered fun this February by participating in the 19th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count! The Great Backyard Bird Count is a citizen-based Science project that aims to collect data on the various types of birds local to different areas around the world. This data is then used for scientific research and is very useful for raising awareness about the habits and populations of birds. Best of all, it’s super easy to participate!
The first thing you have to do is register online for the count. Then, from February 12th - 15th, count as many birds in as many places that you can (A minimum of 15 minutes is suggested by The Great Backyard Bird Count.) making sure that you submit separate checklists for the different areas, different days, or for the same location if you counted at a different time of day, that you counted birds. Then go back to The Great Backyard Bird Count website to submit your observations!
Can’t get enough of bird counting and watching? Then continue the fun by checking out some of these great events happening on Long Island all about birds!
