Starting with "The Father of Our Country," George Washington, you can visit Mount Vernon, his beloved home, open every day of the year. Also nearby is Alexandria, Washington's "hometown," where you can see, in the well-preserved historic district, the places in which he dined, danced and worshipped. Moving on to our third president, Thomas Jefferson, you can tour, near lovely Charlottesville, the stately home this genius designed himself, Monticello.
