Garfunkel Wild, P.C. is pleased to announce that partner Marianne Monroy has been named to Long Island Business News' 40 Under 40 Class of 2012. Monroy is among Long Island's top 40 rising stars who are not only hard working, talented and dedicated young professionals, but who also have made significant contributions to charitable endeavors and their communities. Monroy was inducted into the 40 Under 40 Class of 2012 at an awards dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club last evening.
As a partner in the Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group at Garfunkel Wild, P.C., Monroy represents clients in federal and state court, arbitrations, appeals, hearings and mediations. Her practice includes litigation of a wide variety of commercial and business issues, including contract disputes, managed care and judicial review of agency and other administrative determinations. She also has extensive employment law experience; defending clients against all types of discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, defamation, whistleblower, breach of contract and restrictive covenant claims. Additionally, Monroy frequently represents institutional clients in proceedings relating to the retention, treatment and assisted outpatient treatment plans of psychiatric patients, as well as patient guardianship proceedings.
Monroy routinely counsels clients regarding human resources issues, including compliance with state and federal wage, safety, overtime, discrimination and environmental laws. She represents clients with regard to claims brought before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the New Jersey Civil Rights Commission, and the New York and New Jersey Departments of Labor.
Prior to joining Garfunkel Wild, P.C. in 2001, Monroy practiced land use and environmental law, representing both private and municipal corporations in connection with real estate development applications, zoning and land use planning matters. Monroy received her B.A., cum laude, from Brooklyn College in 1994, and her J.D., cum laude, and Environmental Law Certificate from Pace University Law School in 1997. She is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.
