The 18th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count and Where to Bird Watch on Long Island
This year, from February 13th - February 16th, the 18th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count is taking place! The Annual Great Backyard Bird Count is a great scientific endeavor that aims to document bird populations around the world. The project even allows the public to get in on the action and voluntarily report their findings! These findings gathered by the Great Backyard Bird Count, which is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society with partner Bird Studies Canada, help track the changes in bird populations on a massive scale.
In order to participate you'll need approximately 15 minutes or so on one or more of the count days to dedicate to counting and entering your sightings to the bird count website, that’s it!
Now, while you can always birdwatch right from the comfort of home, or right in your own backyard, you can also visit one of these great spots on Long Island to go birdwatching!
