Syosset Pharmacy Installs Precautionary High-Tech Security System
Linden Care, a pharmacy in Syosset, has taken a high-tech approach to the prescription drug thefts plaguing Long Island. The new security system is said to make “robbing a bank seem like an easy task.”
Customers must first walk into a vestibule where they will be evaluated via security camera by staff members. Once approved for entry customers will have to walk passed an employee who carries a Glock 9 millimeter. And this is all just to reach the waiting room. Thought these may seem like extreme measures, authorities hope that the security systems catch on in other Long Island pharmacies. Pharmacists have become the number one target in a crime epidemic. “Opiate drug addiction is so strong, and so compelling, it drivers other crimes to levels that we haven’t experienced before,” says Steven Skrynecki, chief of department, for Nassau County Police.

A 6-year-old autistic boy, Sean Feldt, was left sleeping on a school bus Monday morning. It wasn’t until Feldt’s teacher realized that the first grader wasn’t in class did anyone realize there was a problem. Both the bus driver who transports young Sean to school and the buses aide failed to check the bus for sleeping children, a Board of Regents requirement. The bus driver has since been fired and the aide suspended. Sean was found within minutes, still buckled in and sleeping on the bus and was quickly returned to the school. He was asleep throughout the entire ordeal.
