The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Long Beach man for a Fatal Auto Accident that occurred on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 4:47 am in Garden City.
According to detectives, Garden City police responded for an auto accident that occurred west bound on Stewart Avenue at Nassau Boulevard. Upon arrival, Garden City police observed a 2007 Nissan that had struck a tree. The operator had fled the scene on foot. A male rear passenger that suffered severe body trauma was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to local hospital for treatment. He was later pronounced deceased by a hospital physician. He has been identified as Marco Antonio Zuniga, 27 of Long Beach. Garden City police a short time later located the operator Christian Velasquez Galeano, 28, of 233 East Market Street. After an investigation it was determined that defendant Galeano was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was placed him into police custody without incident.
Defendant Christian Velasquez Galeano is charged with DWI, Vehicular Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter 2 nd Degree and No Interlock Device. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, February, 10, 2025.
