NEW NAME, SAME GREAT PROGRAMS
The Museums at Stony Brook finally bit the bullet and changed the facility's confusing name to one that more accurately describes its premier position among Long Island's cultural institutions.
Now known as the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages, the facility continues to offer three museums in one package, with programming that brings great traveling exhibits to Long Island to augment its fine permanent collection.
Among the exshibits currently underway is "Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty" (Feb. 3 - May 13),
which explores the significance of these two icons in American history. Another historical exhibit, "Religion and the Founding of the American Republic," will run from February 24 through April 29. In addition to the historical exhibits, there is an art exhibit, "From Cradle to Grave, the Works of William Sidney Mount,"
a tribute to one of Long Island's finest painters, running from January 13 through June 17.
Of course, the permanent collection in the Carriage Museum is one of the finest in America, and a favorite of children and adults.
The Long Island Museum of American Art History and Carriages is located on Route 25A in Stony Brook. For further information, call (631) 751-0066, or access the museum's web at www.longislandmuseum.org.
