Two Drivers Cited for Illegal Street Race, Reckless Driving on Sunrise Highway

Suffolk County Police cited two drivers for an illegal speed contest and reckless driving last night in Bayport.
 
Members of the Suffolk County Police Street Takeover Task Force observed a 2015 Toyota Corolla and a 2008 Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway, near Veterans Highway, racing each other at speeds of 120 mph, the Toyota with the headlights off, at 10:40 p.m.
 
Officers safely stopped both vehicles and cited their drivers, Anthony Obando, 19, of Brentwood, who was driving the Toyota, and Johan Martinez Jimenez, 19, of Brentwood, who was driving the Honda, for Unlawful Speed Contest, Reckless Driving, and multiple other vehicle and traffic violations.
 
They will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 6.
 
Both vehicles were impounded.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
