Great Neck Man Arrested for Assaulting Officer During Probation Visit in Mineola

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Great Neck man for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 5:10 pm in Mineola.
 
According to detectives, police responded to assist Nassau County Probation conducting a probation visit at 400 County Seat Drive. Upon arrival, Third Precinct Officers were informed that Defendant Michael Thomas, 24, of 66 Pond Hill Road, refused to comply with verbal commands and resisted as a Nassau County Probation Officer attempted to place him into custody. Defendant Thomas was violent and combative, striking the officer on the right side of his face with a closed fist, causing substantial pain.
 
Officers were eventually able to place the defendant into custody and as a result of the incident, an officer sustained injuries during the course of the arrest.
 
The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.
 
Defendant Michael Thomas is charged with Assault 2 nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and an open Nassau County Warrant for Violation of Probation. He will be arraigned on February 21, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
