Pedestrian Killed in Copiague Crash, Driver Arrested for DWI and Drug Charges
Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Copiague last night.
Mario Matute was walking on Great Neck Road when he was struck by a southbound Hyundai Tucson at 11:21 p.m. Matute, 59, of Copiague, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rand Strollo, 62, of Amityville, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553.
