(Manorville, NY) - This year, Long Island Game Farm - Wildlife Park & Children's Zoo celebrates its 42nd anniversary with its grand opening on April 16. The park will be open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until April 25. Starting April 29, Long Island Game Farm will be open seven days a week (except on May 3, 10, 17 and 24), through Columbus Day, October 10. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends.
From alligators to zebras and scores of animals in between, the Long Island Game Farm has many interactive areas where guests can touch and, unlike most zoos, actually feed the animals! During the summer season, entertainment and educational programs are featured center stage at the 500-seat amphitheater. For the second straight year, the Game Farm's hugely popular Muttville Comix Canine Comedy Show for 2011 will debut at the stadium on May 28 and run with daily showings until September 5.
During the months of July and August, a week-long children's camp - Camp Zoo - will return. Registration for Camp Zoo is currently underway, marking the beginning of its eighth year as a unique program that provides children with a hands-on educational experience with nature. "We can't wait to open for our 42nd season. Every year gets better and better as we educate our guests about the animal world and nature. I have the privilege of watching thousands of students experience first-hand what they learn in books from the classroom. One of our greatest joys is when families throughout the region or visiting Long Island get to enjoy the park and spend quality time together. Bringing people together - what could be better? It is sure to be our best season yet," said Diane Novak, Co-Owner and President of the Long Island Game Farm.
One of the best times of the year to visit the Game Farm is early spring, when many of the animals have given birth to newborns. The Game Farm is expecting the births of new animals. "Once you walk into the Game Farm, take in the beauty of springtime and you may witness the magic of birth," said Ms. Novak.
