National Nonprofit, HomeFree-USA, Takes Nationwide Stance to Help Families Who Suffered Financial Injury in the Foreclosure Process

More Help for Homeowners events will help foreclosed families to get an
Independent Foreclosure Review

Long Island, NY (March 20, 2012) Help is on the way for thousands of families nationwide whose foreclosure process may have contained errors or other problems. HomeFree-USA, a leading HUD approved intermediary, will be helping victims of foreclosure in ten cities to determine if they qualify for compensation or other remedy as a part of a nationwide day of help. The “More Help for Homeowners” events will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2012 from 10am-2pm at Safeguard Credit Counseling Services, located at 112 Parkway Dr. South, Hauppauge, NY.

The “More Help for Homeowners” events are part of an ongoing effort to reach the 4.3 million families that were mailed letters from the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) advising them of their possible eligibility for a free Independent Foreclosure Review. Borrowers of certain mortgage servicers, whose primary residence was in a foreclosure process between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 may qualify for a review, but must request it by July 31, 2012.

“HomeFree-USA and its nonprofit partners are pleased to help these families to get what they are entitled to,” said Marcia Griffin, president of HomeFree-USA. “The foreclosure process is devastating for a family. We applaud the OCC’s efforts to restore some of what has been lost.”

Each of these events will have certified staff to assist attendees in determining if they qualify for the Independent Foreclosure Review, obtaining the review form, completing and submitting it. Attendees will also be educated about their options in moving forward. In addition, certain locations will provide assistance for homeowners who are currently in default.

HomeFree-USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit organization that specializes in homeownership development, foreclosure intervention and financial empowerment.
