Sophisticated Singles Meet and Greets on Long Island

Written by Amy Gernon  |  29. March 2012

In the age of online dating, Scott Switzer’s Doc’s and Millennium Singles Parties offer a refreshing alternative for professional men and women who would prefer an upscale environment to socialize.  “With online dating so popular today, I felt is was important for singles in the 40 and over demographic to get dressed up, go out, and enjoy a personal interaction with other singles,” Switzer told LongIsland.com.  Unlike online dating “you actually get to meet a person up close and personal. There is no deception. What you see is what you get. It is very easy to read body language when a person is right in front of you.”

Switzer, a native of Brooklyn currently living in Little Neck, teamed up with a friend who had 25 years in the hospitality industry to found 40 Love Live Corp in 2010.  As the business expanded Switzer and his partner acquired Doc’s and Millennium Singles Parties in 2011.

Doc’s and Millennium parties take place at some of Long Island’s most elegant venues, including Stuart Thomas Manor, Harbor Links Country Club, Douglaston Manor, The Swan Club, The Coral House, Verdi’s of Westbury, Lambrou's Caterers, and Paradise Caterers.  A proper dress code is enforced at the parties, lending an air of elegance to an already sophisticated evening.  Fully stocked cash bars, spacious dance floors and a great staff of hosts and hostesses all help break the ice and keep the mingling going smoothly.

Doc’s and Millennium Parties are usually scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  Switzer and his staff greet each guest as they arrive.  Guests are left carefree thanks to coat checks and ample parking provided at the selected venues.  Raffle tickets are distributed to guests as they admitted to the party for a chance to win prizes throughout the evening.  A beautifully prepared buffet dinner is served between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., leaving plenty of time for dancing and mingling. Some of Long Island’s best DJ’s and occasional live music set the mood of the evening.

Although the parties are designed for singles to meet and greet, couples regularly attend Switzer’s parties.  “It shows that going out to our parties has proven itself to be a success story. Most of the couples as well as married couples came to our parties as singles; met at our parties; and have since either coupled up and/or got married,” Switzer said.  Just how successful have Doc’s and Millennium Singles Parties been?  In the past two years over 300 guests have coupled up, according to Switzer, and twelve couples have gotten married.

Doc’s and Millennium Parties have clearly hit the mark for singles meet and greets on Long Island.  As an ever-expanding enterprise, Switzer and his team are always looking for ways to make their parties more enjoyable for guests. “This summer, beginning Thursday May 31st, we will feature a weekday evening event once a month,” Switzer told us. “Dancing Under the Stars,” as the events are called, will be a “dress down” party featuring a fantastic BBQ, cash bar, raffle prizes, and dessert.

Doc’s and Millennium Parties also offer an opportunity for Long Island party venue operators to meet potential clientele. “We are always seeking new venues to host our parties. This is a great opportunity for people to come and see places they ordinarily would not. This is also great for businesses interested in showcasing their venues to a broad spectrum of people who may have never known about them,” Switzer told us.
