Commack, NY: A successful transition from high school to college and the subsequent adjustments are a challenge, particularly to teens with special needs and their families. The Suffolk Y JCC in cooperation with the Jewish Child Care Association's (JCCA) Compass Project is presenting an evening of information and discussion for parents of high school students with PDD, Aspergers and Learning Disabilities, "College Options and Transitions," Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 7:30 pm, at the Suffolk Y JCC, 74 Hauppauge Road, Commack, NY. This workshop will provide information for parents and High School students about available programs, schools and services to help each child achieve their maximum potential. This program is especially helpful for the child that may be struggling in high school, and not even sure that there is a college that is "right" for them.
JCCA's Compass Project provides workshops for families and graduating seniors and individualized career assessment and testing. It also provides services for special needs college students to help with the adjustment to college. Special programs in at select colleges and universities are available on Long Island and in Queens.
