Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison will preside over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony in Brentwood on April 14 at 10 a.m.
As part of their training, the recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, anti-bias training, mental illness, cultural diversity, terrorism and body worn camera technology.
Of the 161 SCPD recruits, 17 have prior law enforcement experience and 17 have military experience. In addition to the Suffolk County Police recruits, four recruits will be joining the East Hampton Town Police Department, Riverhead Town Police Department and Village of Northport Police Department.
As an act of giving back to the community, the class collected toys for children who spent the holiday season at the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. After collecting the donations, the recruits then dropped off the toys to the children to help brighten their spirits.
