It isn't often that Long Islanders are treated to something new when it comes to restaurants. After all, we enjoy a dizzying array of establishments here and in nearby New York City. Let's face it -- when it comes to food, we are spoiled. But one new entrant into the market might just change your mind about what dining is all about.
"We created something where there was nothing," said Todd Herbst, Co-Owner of City Cellar Wine Bar and Grill. "There are expensive restaurants that lack warmth and variety, and more informal ones that just aren't as satisfying. What Long Island needed was a gathering place you could come back to time and again and enjoy different aspects -- lunch, dinner and late night."
City Cellar, with several locations in Southern Florida, was founded by a group of partners originally from Long Island. Returning to their roots, they decided to open their newest location in Westbury behind the Galleria Mall. The new restaurant has been designed on a grand scale, with rich dark cherry woods, lofty ceilings and expert brickwork. The most notable feature is the lavish bar backed by a two-story wine rack and cellar under glass. Not to be outdone by dcor, the menu itself is a work of art and one of the most diverse.
Diners of all tastes and budgets are sure to find something they like from a wide selection featuring chef's specials, appetizers, seafood and steaks, as well as hamburgers, sandwiches and stone hearth pizzas. Flights of wines are also served up for those wanting to experience wine tasting as it was meant to be from the 600 bottle wine cellar.
"City Cellar is a staple for fine dining and late night fare in South Florida, and has long enjoyed a loyal following for its unique experience," said Bill Watson, Co-Owner of City Cellar. "Since opening in Westbury, the new location has already begun to carve out a niche of its own."
"We are so glad to have discovered this place," said Rick Royals, customer and resident of Huntington. "Where else can you go to have a great burger or pizza one day, and fresh seafood or steaks the next? We've already been here twice this week."
Part of the success is its location within the heart of Nassau County and easy accessibility from major parkways and shopping areas. But mostly it is because City Cellar delivers a dining experience unlike any other.
