Suffolk Police Intercept $5,000 Cash Package in Long Island Scam
Suffolk County Police on Long Island intercepted a $5,000 cash package that was part of a scam.
The scammers claimed that the package which was wrapped like a present, was to be delivered to a resident who had won a prize.
The package contained a fraudulent check and instructions for the resident to deposit the check and send a portion of the money back to the scammers.
a 79-year-old woman from Olyphant, Pennsylvania, sent the shipment after receiving a call instructing her to send the money to an address in Coram.
The investigation is ongoing.The police department is warning the public to be vigilant and to never send money to anyone they do not know.
