Freeport, NY, May 5 - The South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation held a different kind of Easter hunt this year. For the first time, after the Easter service, children hunted for cans of food instead of Easter eggs. The following Monday, youth volunteers delivered the cans as well as prepared and served lunch at The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) at 146 Babylon Tpke., Freeport. The INN operates 19 soup kitchens serving more than 300,000 meals annually to hungry children, adults and senior citizens.

"This idea has been implemented by other UU congregations across the country, and we'd love to see it catch on, here on Long Island . At SNUUC, we encourage children to search for truth with an open mind, to love their neighbors, and to work for a better world. Having the children find food to share with others, especially those in need, is a great example of our faith in action," said Jennifer Greene, director of religious education at SNUUC.
