A fatal motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Moriches man in Mastic Beach is being investigated by the Suffolk County Police.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are currently investigating a motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Moriches man in Mastic Beach on the afternoon of May 10th, 2023. The victim has been identified as Brian Baker, 43 years old.
 
According to police reports, Baker was driving a 2022 Hyundai northbound on Mastic Road, just north of Blanco Drive, when he lost control of his vehicle at approximately 2:22 p.m. It is believed that Baker suffered a medical event, which caused him to veer off the road and onto a curb. The vehicle then struck a tree and a utility pole after crossing through the southbound traffic lanes.
 
Baker was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic from the Mastic Beach Ambulance Company. The 16-year-old female passenger who was in the car at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene into the custody of family.
 
As part of their investigation, detectives have impounded the Hyundai for a safety check. Authorities are also urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
