Westbury Man Arrested for Knife-Wielding Robbery at New Cassel Liquor Store

Westbury man charged with robbery after brandishing knife at liquor store owner in New Cassel.

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Westbury man for a Robbery that occurred on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 12:40 p.m. in New Cassel.
 
According to Detectives, Ruben Moya-Zapata, 36, of 24 Arlington Street, entered a Liquor Store, located at 607 Old Country Road, and attempted to steal multiple bottles of liquor by passing all points of purchase without rendering payment. After the defendant exited the store, the owner attempted to confront him and the defendant then brandished a knife toward the victim. Upon Police arrival, Officers located the defendant and arrested him without further incident. No injuries were reported.
 
Defendant Moya-Zapata is charged with Robbery 1 st Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, May 12, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
