Legendary musician Billy Joel has put his 26-acre waterfront estate on Centre Island in Oyster Bay, Long Island up for sale for a whopping $49 million, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The 74-year-old singer-songwriter has owned the estate since 2002, when he purchased it for $22.5 million.

The estate, which was built in 1994, is currently under renovation and includes a 20,000-plus square-foot mansion with an elevator that accesses all floors, as well as a helicopter pad. The property also boasts a floating dock and boat ramp on Oyster Bay Harbor, a four-bedroom gatehouse with an attached three-bedroom apartment and an in-ground pool, a three-bedroom beach house, a three-bedroom guest apartment, a maintenance house, an in-ground pool, an indoor pool, and a bowling alley.

Joel, who was born in the Bronx and grew up in Hicksville, has been a lifelong resident of Long Island. He also maintains another residence in Sag Harbor.

The estate has been listed on Zillow and is being marketed by agents Raymond Lord, Timothy Davis, and Tal Alexander of Douglas Elliman. The listing describes the property as a “spectacular waterfront oasis” that offers “the utmost in privacy and security.”

The listing agents have not yet commented on the property's sale or the renovation work currently underway at the estate.

Over the course of his career, Joel has won numerous awards for his music, including six Grammy Awards and the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor. He has sold over 150 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Joel was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Despite his success, Joel has maintained a relatively low profile in recent years. He has not released a new album since 1993's "River of Dreams," and has only played a handful of concerts in recent years. However, his music remains popular and his songs continue to be covered by artists of all genres.

The sale of his Oyster Bay estate represents a significant change for Joel, who has been a fixture of Long Island for most of his life. It remains to be seen where he will move next, but one thing is for certain: his impact on the music industry will continue to be felt for many years to come.
