Selden, NY - Suffolk County Community College's Head Baseball Coach Eric Brown was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class for 2011. The induction ceremony and dinner took place on May 3, 2011 at the West Lake Inn in Patchogue.
Coach Brown's career coaching record (1987- present) is 540-286-4. He has the sixth most wins among all active NJCAA Division III Baseball Coaches. He has won the Region XV Coach of the Year and District F Coach of the Year awards four times and has been a four-time recipient of the Sportsmanship Award voted on by Region XV umpires.
Coach Brown is an alumnus of SCCC, class of 1970. Following his graduation, he transferred to C.W. Post on a full soccer scholarship. While attending Suffolk, Coach Brown was a three sport athlete (soccer, basketball, baseball).
Coach Brown is a member of the Longwood High School Sports Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Suffolk County Community College Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to his honors for coaching baseball, Coach Brown served as the SCCC Men's Head Basketball Coach for three years and was the assistant coach for 17 years. He has worked as the Suffolk Community College Coordinator of the Mailroom and Central Receiving for 26 years.
When asked what his greatest achievement has been, Coach Brown is quick to say that even though he is proud to have made four NJCAA World Series appearances he is most proud of his players. Four players from SCCC who trained under Coach Brown were drafted by Major League Baseball to teams including the Colorado Rockies and the New York Yankees. Countless other players have transferred to four-year institutions to continue their academic and athletic careers.
