Celebrate the opening of Sweetbriar Nature Center’s Butterfly Vivarium at the Butterfly and Bird Festival on June 10.

Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown will be opening its Butterfly Vivarium and the public is invited to join the celebration at the annual Butterfly and Bird Festival. This family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature wildlife presentations, Native American dancers and singers from the Shinnecock Nation, craft vendors, food trucks, and musical performances. 

 

The event draws thousands of visitors each year and welcomes the re-opening of the seasonal enclosed outdoor Butterfly Vivarium filled with butterflies and butterfly-friendly plants. 

 

The cost is $25 per carload or, if walking in from the neighborhood, $25 for up to six people. Parking is very limited so carpooling is suggested. This festival is rain or shine.

 

Sweetbriar Nature Center and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center 

 

The non-profit Sweetbriar Nature Center is situated on 54 acres of varied garden, woodland, field and wetland habitats on the Nissequogue River. Hundreds of species of plants and animals make homes there. It provides natural science education services for Long Island residents of all ages and engages in native wildlife rehabilitation services. 

 

Sweetbriar’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center provides quality medical care and rehabilitation for all injured, sick and orphaned wildlife, and shares its knowledge with the people who care about them. The center also hosts birthday parties with live reptiles, mammals, birds, and more, Animal Encounter Experiences, and daily natural science programs over the school breaks for elementary school children.
