The Town of Brookhaven’s ecological efforts are rooted in the care it takes in preserving its trees. The effort hasn't one unnoticed. Recently, the town announced that it was designated as a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the fifth time.
Because the Town makes the planting and care of trees a priority it has become one of 3,600 Tree City USA communities in the country. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
Leaving nothing to chance in the care of its trees, the Town meets the program’s four requirements; a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2.00 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
