Everyone can remember going to someone’s house for a sleepover party as a kid. Staying up late, pigging out on junk food, sharing scary stories, and laughing until the host’s parents have to come downstairs and tell everyone it really is time to go to sleep. These fond memories stick with us for years to come, so why not make it an even more unforgettable night and party?
A great way to make a sleepover party even more special than it already is by adding a theme! A themed sleepover can help you with planning the party; give you some direction as to what to do for decorations, food, and games. Themes are also a unique opportunity for your child to show off their interests and personality, and then share that with their friends. Your son or daughter will be talking about this party long after everyone has packed up their sleeping bags and gone home.
Superhero Party – Save the day with this Superhero themed slumber party! Get table cloths, plates, decorations, and a cake, all in the theme of a variety of superheroes. Ask all of the guests come over in their favorite superhero pajamas. Do a craft where everyone can make their own cape, have superhero movies ready to watch, and use painters tape to create a web, like Spiderman would create, and have the kids throw different colored paper (each child having a different color) to see who can get the most on the web. Then reward them with a yummy lollipop with a cape!
Night at the Spa Party – This sleepover is all about beauty and pampering. Make sure to stock up on nail polish, beauty supplies, hair spray & hair ties, and those little foam toe separators prior to the party. Don’t forget the cucumbers! The attendees will have a wonderful time soaking up the beauty tips from friends and feeling glamorous for the night. Pick up a cake in the design of a nail polish bottle, host activities like facials, manicures, pedicures, and hair styling. You’re pre-warned - you may need to polish up on your hair braiding skills!
Camping Party – Nothing quite screams awesome sleepover party like an exciting night out camping in the backyard. You’re going to need a large tent to fit all of the kids and their sleeping bags. If you can, arrange to have an adult attended bonfire to roast some marshmallows, make s’mores, and share scary ghost stories. Give the kids part of their take-home goodie bag beforehand, a miniature flashlight. For food, barbeque up some burgers and hotdogs in the true outdoorsy fashion.
All About Movies Party – The perfect party for all of those cinephiles in the making. For this theme you are going to need a decent movie selection, try to have at least one of each genre on hand so the party-goers and birthday girl or boy have a good group to choose from. Popcorn is a must too, lots and lots of popcorn. For games and activities make sure to play some movie trivia and movie charades. Decorate the house with old school movie theater fanfare, movie posters, and as a parting gift fill up a popcorn container with yummy candy concessions.
