As summer begins, school will soon be ending for all of the school districts. This means having kids running around the house again looking for fun things to do during their summer off. If you’re looking for a way to cool off, then what better to do than find an indoor activity for the kids? Long Island has a host of options to keep the kids entertained and to make sure that Mom or Dad are having fun as well. An indoor activity can sometimes be preferable to spending countless hours outside in the sun. While Long Island is known for its beaches, it also features great indoor opportunities that are anything but boring. From theatres to bowling there are endless options of indoor fun. Museums and art galleries are educational and intriguing alternatives to getting sunburn that you’ll regret. Here are just a few ways that you can beat the summer heat, or enjoy some time out of the house, even if it’s raining:

Theatres and Performing Arts:
Theatres and Performing Art Centers are a great way to spend a day with your child. Many of the local area theatres offer shows performed just for kids so you know they will enjoy this indoor alternative. Not only is it a great way to get out of the sun but it’s also a way to show your support of your local community arts programs. Head out to one of these awesome shows and you’re guaranteed to have a great time while staying indoors.

Bowling:
Hitting the lanes is another great way to stay inside this summer. Most lanes are open all week for anyone who would like to use them. There are also a ton of coupons floating around that will give you free games or food. Many of these bowling lanes will also offer summer camps for kids who really love to bowl!

Ice Skating:
Even though it’s hot outside it doesn’t mean you can’t get chilly! Ice skating rinks all across the Island are open all summer to the general public and for skating lessons. This is a perfect way to avoid sitting out in the sun and go back to winter sports. Ice skating in the summer is a sure way to get your kids excited.

Museums:
While going to the beach might seem more fun to kids then spending day learning, Long Island museums have something for everyone. With Long Island’s fascinating history, museums are not hard to come by and can usually be found in your town. Whether it is learning about the Setauket Spy Ring to the history of the old watermill in town, these museums are sure to excite and intrigue your kids.

Aquariums:
The beach isn’t the only place to see fish on Long Island. Aquariums on Long Island feature amazing and hands on exhibits of fish from all across the world. These fantastic displays of marine life and touch tanks will be sure to entertain the whole family. These great indoor exhibits are a fun way to stay out of the sun.
