New Jersey Man Arrested for $85,000 Grand Larceny Scam in North New Hyde Park

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a New Jersey man for a Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in North New Hyde Park.
 
According to Detectives, a female victim, 74, stated she was approached at her residence located on North 4th Street by an unknown male advising the victim that her roof needed repairs. The subject represented himself as a roof contractor and instructed the victim on multiple occasions to withdraw money from her bank account. The victim complied each time, withdrawing approximately $85,000.00 in total.
 
The victim grew suspicious and contacted a family member who called 911.
 
After a thorough investigation, defendant Danny Burton, 26, of 410 S Randolphville Road, Piscataway was arrested without incident on Monday, July 1, 2024 in front of the victim’s residence.
 
Defendant Burton is being charged with Grand Larceny 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, two counts of Scheme to Defraud 1st degree and Conspiracy 5th degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
