Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Now that Adopt-a-Cat Month is over, our Adorable Adoptable Pet feature has gone to the dogs, and first up is Marvin, a deaf purebred boxer from A Home Fur Now Rescue.

Marvin has been living with his foster family for a long time, which surprises the volunteers at A Home Fur Now, since Marvin gets along with all people – adults and kids – as well as animals, including other dogs and cats, which makes him a great fit for all different kinds of families.

He is housetrained, neutered, and up-to-date with all of his routine shots. This spunky boxer would prefer a home with a yard for him to run around in.

Marvin is a smart dog who is particularly special in that he is deaf, but that does not change the fact that he is an adorable and all-around loving dog.  Even though he cannot hear, Marvin is trained and knows exactly what is expected of him in the house and around children, and he would love to meet his forever family to show off his great behavior and adorable mug.

If you are interested in adopting Marvin, contact A Home Fur Now via email or through their Facebook page here.

A Home Fur Now is a not-for-profit rescue that relies solely on foster homes to care for their animals.  Their mission is to save the strays, throwaways, and shelter animals and to improve their lives through medical care, spaying and neutering, and finding families that would be compatible with these pets.
