Elderly Woman Duped in Grand Larceny Scam by Fake Good Samaritan in Roosevelt
The First Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny/Elder Scam that occurred on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 3:00 pm in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, a 76-year-old female was walking on Nassau Road near the intersection of Debevoise Avenue where she was approached by an unknown male offering to help carry her groceries. The victim happily obliged and when they arrived at her home, the unknown male explained how he was in possession of a winning lottery ticket but was unable to claim his winnings. The victim offered to cash the ticket on his behalf but was instructed by the male he needed something as collateral. The victim then relinquished various jewelry items but was advised it wasn’t enough and she needed to withdraw $2,000.00 USC from the bank.
A short time later, an unknown female subject operating a white 4-door sedan arrived at her residence and transported both the victim and the male to the Bethpage Federal Credit Union located at 405 Nassau Road where she made the withdrawal. When the victim finally arrived back home, she realized she was scammed and contacted police.
The first subject is described as a male approximately 40-years-old, 5’9” tall with a medium build wearing a blue shirt, a black baseball hat and glasses. Unknown description of the female operating the vehicle at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
