Frightening Water Emergency: Kayakers Rescued from Deadly Currents Near Wantagh as Marine Patrol Issues Urgent Weather Warning

Two kayakers were rescued from dangerous currents near Wantagh, prompting a marine patrol weather warning.

The Public Information Office reports the details of a Water Emergency that occurred on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 6:42 pm in Wantagh.
 
According to police, two (2) males launched their kayaks out of Jones Beach Field 10 and went for a ride. The men decided to turn around in the Great Island Channel in the vicinity of the 2nd Wantagh Bridge. They quickly realized the winds and currents were too much for them to handle.
 
They notified 911, Nassau County Marine 6 responded and located the kayakers. The men, along with their kayaks were taken aboard the vessel and transported back to Jones Beach Field 10.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
The public is reminded to consider weather and water conditions prior to operating small watercrafts or personal watercrafts.
