Print Email

The East End Arts Council Gallery's "Year of the Collector" will culminate with a very unique and exciting show: Red Dot, a competition for art collectors. To take place September, Red Dot, juried by renown arts journalist, author, professor, and curator Dr. Charles A. Riley II, will feature artwork entered not by the artists themselves, but the collectors inspired by them.
The East End Arts Council encourages anyone who has supported and bought the work of local artists to enter one of the treasures from their own collection in this competition with other collectors, which will make up the Red Dot exhibit. Works submitted must be the creation of a living, Long Island artist. Entries will be accepted on August 25, 26 and 27, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the East End Arts Council Gallery, located at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY. A full list of entry guidelines is available on the Arts Council's website: http://www.eastendarts.org/TempPDFs/Red%20Dot%202011.pdf
Juror Charles A. Riley II, PhD, Curator-at-Large of the Nassau Museum and former Senior Editor of Art+Auction magazine, will use his very experienced collector's eye to put together a show of the art he considers the best of the best. In addition, Dr. Riley will award Best in Show for the single piece he believes to be the most amazing collecting coup in the exhibit. Prizes will be awarded to both the Best in Show collector and artist. The winning collector will be awarded dinner for two at the Jamesport Manor Inn, plus one year memberships to three great East End arts institutions: the East End Arts Council, The Parrish Art Museum and Guild Hall. The winning artist will be awarded a solo show at The Rosalie Dimon Gallery at the Jamesport Manor Inn, in Jamesport, NY. The opening reception for the Red Dot exhibit will be held on Friday, September 2 from 5PM to 7PM at the East End Arts Council Gallery, located at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901, and the show will be on display from September 2 through October 7, 2011.
