August begins with much excitement - the Olympics are well underway in England, with the US taking home plenty of the gold, silver, and bronze. Whether or not you're an athlete, the Olympics are something that everyone can get excited about - there are numerous celebrations to partake in celebrating the US victories, and for those of us who do enjoy partaking in sports, it provides the motivation to get out there, and get active. The weekend's forecast is mixed, but not to worry - there are plenty indoor & outdoor events and activities this weekend to entertain, no matter what the weekend brings. The upcoming weekend and week are filled with musicals, charity events, farmers markets, and even a sandcastle building contest. So get ready to go for the gold this weekend, and get out there!

Bay Street Theatre on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, NY presents the World Premiere BIG MAYBELLE: SOUL OF THE BLUES, starring Tony winner Lillias White as legendary blues singer Maybelle Smith; written and directed by Paul Levine August 7 – Sept. 2. Lillias White won the 1997 Tony, Drama Desk, People’s Choice and The Outer Critics Awards for her portrayal of a hooker in THE LIFE and she received a Tony nomination for her role in FELA! She understudied the role of Effie in the original 1981 production of DREAMGIRLS and later played the part in the 1987 revival. 21st Annual East Hampton Sandcastle Contest
This Saturday, starting at 9AM, join the Clamshell Foundation as they celebrate their 21s Annual East Hampton Sandcastle Contest at Atlantic Avenue Beach. With five age categories and trophies for all members of winning teams, this will be a fun family event. Admission is $10 per team to enter, and you can bring anything you want to build with but only natural beach material are allowed in finished sand sculptures. Head out to the Hamptons this weekend for what is sure to be a fun filled day!
2nd Annual Saddle Rock Benefit Match
Head out to Meadowbrook Saddle Club this Sunday August 5th at 12PM for their annual charity polo match! Hosted by Saddle Rock Ranch and The Squadron A Association, proceeds from this event will be used to expand Saddle Rock’s existing handicap riding program for veterans of the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars. This free event is sure to be fun for the whole family! Head out to Old Westbury and immerse yourself in the world of polo!
Music from the Heart: A Recital
Join Elizabeth Wells as she shares a story of love and loss through music this Saturday at East End Art Gallery. This magical might featuring songs from musical theatre and the opera world will be surely be fun for music lovers.
