Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced between 6 and 10 inches of rainfall across the area since 9 pm, with hourly rainfall rates as high as 3 to 4 inches per hour. Fatal high-speed collision in Massapequa claims three lives, leaving multiple injured; investigation ongoing.

The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 7:21 PM in Massapequa.
 
According to Detectives, a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway, across from the shopping center located at 5598 Sunrise Highway, where it collided with three additional vehicles.
 
As a result of the collision three victims were pronounced. Five additional victims were transported to local area hospitals where two are listed in critical unstable condition, two are listed in stable condition and one was treated and released.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
