According to Detectives, Officers observed three men walking along Post Avenue and looking into the storefronts of closed businesses. One of the men, Defendant James Jean-Louis, 19, of 237 Linden Avenue was wearing a chest-bound fanny pack. As Officers approached, the Defendant turned his body and the pack swung down quickly. One Officer grabbed at the pack, felt what appeared to be a firearm causing the Defendant to grab the Officers wrist to break his grip on the pack. The other Officers were alerted and assisted in placing the defendant into custody. Recovered from the fanny pack was a loaded silver and black colored Lorcin L380 semi-automatic handgun. No injuries were reported.
Defendant James Jean-Louis is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He will be arraigned on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
