New York's Academic All-Stars: High Schools Shine in Latest U.S. News Rankings

New York's High Schools Achieve Top Honors in U.S. News Rankings for Academic Excellence and College Readiness.

The latest edition of U.S. News Best High Schools rankings has unveiled comprehensive data encompassing nearly 25,000 public high schools across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This extensive evaluation encompassed around 18,000 schools, which were meticulously evaluated across six key metrics. The criteria spanned their performance in state assessments as well as their efficacy in preparing students for higher education.
 
On the date of August 29th, a Tuesday, the rankings were officially published, shedding light on the performance of high schools nationwide.
 
Leading the charge in the state of New York is the High School for Math Science and Engineering at CCNY, boasting an impeccable 100-percent graduation rate and an impressive 98.9 college readiness rating. This accomplishment earned the school the noteworthy 22nd position in the national rankings.
 
Among the top-performing high schools on Long Island, the following five stood out:
 
  • Jericho High School (13th in New York, 104th nationally)
  • Garden City High School (21st in the state, 199th nationally)
  • Great Neck South High School (22nd in the state, 205th nationally)
  • Manhasset Secondary School (28th in the state, 251st nationally)
  • Herricks High School (29th in the state, 257th nationally)
 
Furthermore, within Westchester County, six schools demonstrated remarkable achievements and secured their spots among the top 35 in the state:
 
  • Bronxville (16th in the state, 151st nationally)
  • Rye (17th in the state, 161st nationally)
  • Edgemont (19th in the state, 176th nationally)
  • Horace Greeley (25th in the state, 224th nationally)
  • North Salem (27th in the state, 246th nationally)
  • Irvington (34th in the state, 271st nationally)
 
The U.S. News rankings derive from a meticulous assessment process, guided by the following set of criteria:
 
College Readiness (30 percent)
State Assessment Proficiency (20 percent)
State Assessment Performance (20 percent)
Underserved Student Performance (10 percent)
College Curriculum Breadth (10 percent)
Graduation Rate (10 percent)
