Suffolk County Hero Officer to Receive New York State Liberty Award for Daring Rescue: A Probationary Police Officer's Swift Actions Earn Praise

Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct Officer Kevin Farina will receive the New York State Liberty Award from New York State Senator Dean Murray during a ceremony at Suffolk County Police Headquarters on August 30 at 11 a.m.

Officer Farina is being recognized for his efforts during an off-duty incident, and still a probationary police officer, when he rendered aid to two people involved in a motor vehicle crash on June 24. Officer Farina was on his way to work at 5:20 a.m. when he observed an overturned vehicle off the road in Farmingville. Officer Farina pulled two people to safety as the vehicle caught fire.

Senator Murray, along with Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison, will present Officer Farina with a proclamation and medal.
