When Waterzooi closed its doors in Port Washington at 1029 Port Washington Boulevard they hinted that something exciting was already in the works for the location by the new owners. According to records filed with New York State, a company called Port Taco LLC has filed for a liquor license for the spot in August and that company is doing business as MESITA. A public notice also advertised the liquor license application for Port Taco LLC.

While not confirmed yet this is possibly Mesita Mexican Cuisine Restaurant.

Mesita, which translates to “small table,” serves authentic, modern, Mexican cuisine and they already have locations in Rockville Centre and Garden City. They also announced plans in March 2022 to open a location in Amityville at a former Chase Bank building. There were also plans to expand into two other towns in Suffolk County, possibly Patchogue and Smithtown.

Mesita is known for its “fresh guacamole prepared table-side, mouth-watering Mexican street corn, fire-grilled fajitas, along with burritos, tacos and many other house-made Mexican dishes,” according to their website. They also feature a drink menu with over 200 tequilas.

We reached out to the owners for confirmation and have not heard a response as of the writing of this article. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
