Bellmore, NY - The Lupus Alliance of America, LIQ Affiliate, home of the Walk-Along for Lupus, Long Island's first and longest running lupus walk, will hold their 18th Annual Walk-Along for Lupus on Sunday, October 16th, 2011 at Eisenhower Park, Field #6. Registration will begin at 8:30am and the walk begins at 10:00am. The minimum donation is $20.00 per person. As always the Alliance hopes to be the host to several Long Island and Queens Schools that attend the walk loyally every year. For those schools new incentives are available by visiting www.lupusliqueens.org.
The walk donation website is up and running at www.firstgiving.com.lupusliqueens. Walkers can visit the website, register for free, and customize their own personalized walk donation pages. Once a page is made, walkers can send it out through their Twitter Account, Facebook Page, Blog and more to ask friends and family to walk with them on their team, or donate to their page. Web pages can even include your own YouTube video on why you walk for lupus! To register online and begin collecting donations please visit www.lupusliqueens.org/18thwalkalongforlupus.
The Lupus Alliance of America LI/Q Affiliate is a small local non-profit that has been dedicated to helping those who live with lupus as well as their families for over 50 years by not only supporting the latest in novel research but also through programs such as support groups, telephone counseling, brochures and literature, educational forums, financial assistance grants and groups for kids with lupus. Although several fundraisers are held throughout the year to raise the funds to support their programs, the Walk-Along for Lupus is their biggest and most successful event. Every dollar donated at the walk will help the Alliance continue to serve the Long Island/Queens population that is affected by lupus. As the only local resource for those who live with lupus in our area, the Lupus Alliance of LIQ has been a mainstay of support, knowledge and friendship since 1955.
"Although our annual Walk-Along for Lupus is a fundraiser, it is also a chance to meet, mingle and enjoy the company of friends, family and neighbors who have lupus or are active in the lupus community. We value the personal connections we have made over the years with our members, and enjoy seeing them year after the year at the walk, it`s almost like a family reunion," stated Carol Goldklang, President of the Lupus Alliance of LIQ.
At the walk, everyone can enjoy breakfast, lunch, face painting, meeting Greg-T from Z-100, taking pictures with the USA Skateasauras and receiving great give-a-ways from the Walk-Along`s generous sponsors. Team signs and team pre-packaged lunches will be available again this year, along with a new addition, Team Pictures! Visit the Alliance website for information on these and other incentives, at www.lupusliqueens.org/walkalongforlupus.
