Two friends' heroic actions save a life in a dramatic water rescue after a fishing mishap in Wantagh, leaving one victim in critical but stable condition.

The Seventh Squad reports the details of a Water Rescue that occurred on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 4:45 a.m. in Wantagh.
 
According to Detectives, a 911 call was received for a person who fell into the water from underneath the Greene Island Fishing Pier. The first male victim, 30, was fishing with three of his friends when he accidentally fell into the Sloop Channel.
 
The second male victim, 26, jumped into the water to help save his friend. Both victims drifted approximately a half mile west of the pier into the Channel where they were rescued from the water by Nassau County’s Marine Bureau.
 
The first victim was found unresponsive and not breathing. Officers aboard began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and transported both victims to a nearby hospital. The first victim is in critical but stable condition at this time. The second victim was not injured.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
