Veolia Transportation has scheduled two Jobs Fairs for persons interested in positions at Long Island Bus. Current Long Island Bus employees are welcome at both Job Fairs, which will be held Thursday, September 29 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, September 30 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The general public (those who do not currently work for Long Island Bus) is invited to the Friday, September 30 meeting only. Both events will be held at the Long Island Marriott Hotel and Conference Center 101 James Doolittle Blvd., Uniondale.
Current Long Island Bus employees are being given preference in hiring. Veolia, a leader in the transit industry that will assume day-to-day responsibility for operating Long Island Bus beginning January 1, 2012, is seeking entry-level through managerial-level positions in all areas including operations, maintenance, and support functions. A large team of Veolia managers from a wide range of areas will attend to meet with and interview candidates.
The Job Fairs are in addition to special Employee Meetings for current Long Island Bus workers. On September 14 and 15, more than 200 current employees of Long Island Bus joined a team from Veolia to learn more about career opportunities during six, 90-minute meetings held at the Uniondale Marriott.
While Veolia will be accepting applications for all positions, these Job Fairs will focus on the following positions: Dispatch/Call Center, Maintenance, Bus Drivers (commercial drivers license needed), Paratransit drivers, Diesel Engine Technicians, Bus Cleaners/Fuelers, Operations, Safety, Training, and Supervisors and front-line operations staff. Attendees are encouraged to be prepared to fill out applications and interview, and should bring their resumes, driver licenses and other important documents.
All workers at Long Island Bus are currently employees of the MTA, which will continue to operate Long Island Bus under contract with the county through December 31, 2011. Veolia was selected by the county to join in a public-private operating partnership to run Long Island Bus, including Able-Ride. If you are a current Long Island Bus/MTA employee who is interested in working for Veolia, it will be necessary for you to apply with Veolia by submitting an application and completing the interview and selection process. Current employees of Long Island Bus are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by September 30, 2011.
This will be a great opportunity for those interested in positions with the Nassau County bus service to get to know Veolia's team and more details about the full range of positions that are being filled. We look forward to meeting candidates who will help us deliver quality service for our riders, said Mike Setzer, Veolia's CEO for the Nassau County bus system.
