Autumn is here with plenty of hot spots on Long Island for entertainment!

The arrival of October makes it feel much more like autumn. And, this week’s hot spots featuring tastings with autumn ingredients and favorites add to that feel. Make sure to check out a six course chef tasting at Westbury Manor, Islip Chamber of Commerce’s A Taste of the South Shore, and the Autumn Appetizing Cook-Off at Wit & Whim. There’s also plenty of other entertainment on Long Island, including art exhibits, karaoke night, a performance with Chicago blues legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy and more. MONDAY – SEPTEMBER 30, 2013

Who: Land Of The Rising Sun – Art Of Japan At Hofstra University Museum
Info: Currently on exhibit at the David Filderman Gallery are highlights of Japanese works spanning the 16th through 20th centuries. The exhibit includes woodblock prints, hand-painted scrolls, and wood carvings.

Who: Gatsby’s Long Island At Patchogue-Medford Library
Info: Author and historian Monica Randall is present to give a presentation on the original castle that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel. Learn about the details of the Woodward murder case and the mysterious F.W. Woolworth Mansion. Call to register for the event.

Who: Smithtown Township Arts Council “Artist Spotlight” At Mill Ponds House
Info: It’s the first annual “Artist Spotlight” featuring the work of Long Island artist Barbara Bilotta. Bilotta is an abstract expressionist. She offers vibrant paintings with visual and emotional power and striking abstract patterns in her works. A portion of proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
