Locals Enjoy Sunny Skies and Warm Weather on St. James Day
The weather on Long Island is turning out to be a bit cool and rather cloudy this week, but LI got a belated dose of summer on Sunday with clear skies and temperatures near 80°! Such nice conditions were a welcome sight in St. James, where the local Chamber of Commerce put on the annual St. James Day festival.
Hundreds of vendors lined the sides of Lake Avenue, selling everything from lawn ornaments and toys to fudge and dog treats. Numerous food trucks and local restaurants took part, giving the throngs of visitors a wide array of dining options as they walked through the fair. Fresh pizza, “Long Island” cheese steaks, pulled pork sandwiches, gyros, souvlaki, roast corn, soft serve ice cream, and plenty of other dishes were being served up and down Lake Avenue.
This year St. James Day coincided with the final game of Derek Jeter’s career, which led many of festival’s visitors to pick up Jeter memorabilia from the local t-shirt vendors in celebration of the Yankee Captain’s twenty years with the Yankees.
Between all the vendors to visit and the beautiful weather, hundreds of locals and visitors continued to come out throughout the entire day. There was never a dull moment, leaving little doubt that next year’s festival will be just as big of a hit!
