Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for attempting to scam a woman in Lindenhurst yesterday.
 
A 77-year-old woman received an alert on her computer indicating that her bank account had been compromised and instructing her to call the number listed on the screen. She called the number, and a man convinced her to withdraw cash from her bank account. The man picked up more than $16,000 in cash from her residence on October 2 at approximately 1:30 p.m.
 
The victim received another call today seeking an additional $10,000. The woman called police, and Gurpreet Singh was arrested at the victim's home in Lindenhurst at approximately 1:10 p.m.
 
First Squad detectives charged Singh, 29, of Queens, with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. He is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 4.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives believe another man collected the money from the victim on October 2.
