ELEVATED RISK FOR FIRE SPREAD SATURDAY The combination of low relative humidity values near 30 percent and northwest winds gusting 30 to 35 mph will create an elevated risk for fire spread across the region on Saturday. Exercise caution handling any potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Any fires that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly. This forecast considered meteorological, fuel, and land conditions, and has been developed in coordination with NY, NJ, and CT fire and land management officials.

Man Arrested for Anti-Semitic Threats and Assault in Cedarhurst Bias Incident

A male suspect was driving in the vicinity of Lincoln Street and Oakland Avenue and causing a disturbance.

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Queens man for a Bias Incident that occurred on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1:20 PM in Cedarhurst.
 
According to detectives, a male suspect was driving a 2007 white Lexus in the vicinity of Lincoln Street and Oakland Avenue and causing a disturbance.
 
The suspect made verbal threats to numerous people as well as anti-Semitic remarks before driving away. A short while later, the same suspect was driving in the vicinity of Barrett Road and Washington Avenue in Lawrence where he approached another group of victims, making additional verbal threats and anti-Semitic remarks.
 
Subsequent to an investigation, defendant Alvin Tirado, 38, of Queens was located and placed under arrest. When the defendant was being placed in the back of a police vehicle, he became physically combative causing a Police Officer to sustain injuries. The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
 
Defendant Alvin Tirado is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, two (2) counts of Aggravated Harassment 2nd Degree and two (2) counts of Menacing 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
